HAYDEN BIRD insists there will be no repeat of the squad overhaul he completed at Merstham last summer, admitting he was happy with the quality of last season's team.

Last June, the Moatsiders announced a huge 14 new signings in one swoop but Bird believes he will limit the additions to just "one or two" this close season.

"I'm going to announce the squad for next season at a meet the manager evening on June 28," Bird said. "But it has been a quiet summer. After the good second half we had to last season, the key thing was stability and we hope to keep the majority of last season's squad intact.

"I will just be looking to add one or two more players to improve the squad, but I don't think we need seven or eight signings."

Merstham have announced six pre-season friendlies but will also take part in Corinthian-Casuals' annual Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase Tournament on July 12 and 13, in which they will play the hosts as well as Kingstonian and Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Then on July 19 the Moatsiders will play Molesey away, before another away friendly on July 21, this time at Cove.

On July 29 they will host Ryman League Division One South champions Peacehaven & Telscombe at the Moatside, followed by another two home games against Premier Division sides; Grays Athletic on August 2 and Kingstonian on August 5.
