Surrey Championship Premier Division Banstead 219-3 Spencer 127-5 Winning draw for Spencer DESPITE a century from Uwe Birkenstock, Banstead narrowly failed to record their finish win of the season at Spencer on Saturday. In a rain-affected match, Banstead were put in to bat and while opener Josh Lawrence (19) and Hamza Taaj (15) contributed well, it was the partnerships overseas player Birkenstock (108no) formed with James O'Neill (37) and Surrey professional Freddie van den Bergh (37no) that put the visitors on course. The Rams finished on 219-3 from their 40 overs. But, as is Banstead's luck this season, despite a decent display with the bat, they could not restrict Spencer's reply enough to get the result they very much needed. Opener Hugo Darby notched a half century before he was caught by Birkenstock off the bowling of Dan Gale, and with Jonathan Batty (23) and Neil Baker (32) also contributing well, the middle order were able to guide the home side over the line for a winning draw, finishing on 127-5 from 23 overs. Surrey youngster Van den Bergh was the pick of the Rams bowlers with 3-37.
