IT WAS one for the history books on Friday as Caterham played – and won – their first-ever girls-only colts match.

The Caterham U11 Girls played Newdigate, coming away with a ten-run win in a nail-biting match.

After winning the toss, Caterham skipper Jessamine Kelly invited Newdigate to bat first in the pairs format and they reached a total of 268.

The first wicket was a direct hit run out from Nia Bullen. The next six wickets were all clean bowled with Daniela Parrett (2-17) the most successful bowler. Amy Johnstone, Kelly, Melissa Parrett and Jess Whyatt all picked up a wicket apiece.

The Caterham reply began well with Amy Johnstone and Daniela Parrett.

The second pair got off to a bad start with a run out off their first ball but this was to be the only wicket Caterham lost in their innings.

Fourth pair, Kelly and top scorer Leila Treacher put Caterham in front before Lowri Bullen and Parrett sensibly played out the last two overs to secure victory.

Caterham colts manager Tony Parrett said: "This has been a tremendous success which started with our winter advertising campaign and indoor nets, following through into the summer as we continued to attract enough girls to put this side together. "
