A SEVEN wicket haul from Salil Oberoi and an unbeaten century from skipper Nick Woods earned promotion-chasing Chipstead, Coulsdon & Walcountians a comfortable win on Saturday.
Visitors Purley won the toss and sent Chipstead in to bat, dismissing all-rounder Oberoi lbw for just five. He was later to get his revenge.
David Ward added 39 before Grove Venter went for one while Malinda Thotiwilage fell agonisingly close to his century at 96.
Woods was further down the order than normal, but the decision paid off for Chipstead as their skipper hit an unbeaten 110 runs from 85 balls alongside Ben Sandhu (31no) as the hosts declared at 296-4.
Purley's reply got off to a positive start with 28 from Stuart Glassington before he was caught by Sandhu off the bowling of Michael Bradley, but Oberoi soon ended any hopes of the visitors.
Starting with Tauseef Mehdi (20), in at three, Oberoi tore through the Purley batting line up with ease.
In all Oberoi took seven wickets, including two ducks, for the loss of just 26 runs to send Purley home empty handed.
Woods also contributed two wickets (2-52) as Purley finished all out for 175.
