TOYS and games was the theme for this year's popular Oxted Carnival.

Participants were dressed as dominoes, jigsaw pieces, toy soldiers and characters from the Angry Birds game.

Leading the procession were the carnival prince and princess George Hancock and Isobel Shaw, pupils at St Peter's School in Tandridge.

Hundreds of people gathered in the town centre to watch the parade proceed to the Master Park carnival ground.

And even if the big day on Saturday was not bathed in glorious sunshine, the rain held off for an afternoon of fun.

Arena events included displays by the Starmakerz Theatre School and Bastet School of Dancing.

There were also more than 50 stalls, together with a bar and a barbecue, to entertain visitors.

Oxted's Barn Theatre ran a cream tea marquee, there were 340 bottles on the tombola of the Oxted branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and the Rotary Club of Oxted and Limpsfield ran fairground games.

The carnival was officially opened by Caterham Town Crier Sonia Hunt. And Tandridge District Council chairman Liz Parker, accompanied by her husband Robin, was there to meet and greet carnival-goers.

Prizes for the best floats were won by St Stephen's Primary School in South Godstone and Tandridge Village Pre-School.

Proceeds are still being totted up this week.

The beneficiary this year will be The Fountain Centre cancer unit near Guildford.
