PLANS to build three large houses in a conservation area in Walton-on-the-Hill have been refused by councillors.

The members on Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's planning committee threw out Runnymede Homes' proposals to build the trio of two-storey homes in Meadow Walk.

Similar plans for the site have been refused before because the homes were too close together, not reflecting the spacious character of the area.

Neighbouring resident Grant Webster told councillors the new proposals were still "overpowering", adding: "We will suffer residential amenity."

Tadworth and Walton Residents Association also spoke against the plans.

Applicant Michael Weeks said: "The existing house is inefficient and expensive to maintain," adding that the new homes would "preserve and enhance the conservation area".

Councillor Rachel Turner said the "overbearing" plans would be "significantly harmful" to neighbouring properties.
