EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a serious collision which has brought a Lingfield road to a standstill.

Two cars, one of which is believe to be a Jaguar, collided at around 1.30pm today (Tuesday) in Newchapel Road.

Police, fire crews and ambulances are at the scene, it is not clear if anyone has been injured but witnesses reported seeing one driver being cut out of his car by firefighters.

This is not the first incident in the area.

Newchapel Road resident Eve Thompson described the accident as a "familiar scene," adding: "It's happened again. There have been two police cars, two fire engines and paramedics and an ambulance parked along from our house, near the council flats, for about an hour. The police aren't doing anything about the traffic."

Traffic is believed to be moving slowly along Newchapel Road in both directions as vehicles squeeze past the vehicles and towards the pinch points on Godstone Road.

A new development of 22 affordable houses on Newchapel Road is due to go back to planning committee at Tandridge District Council later this month after concerns were raised about the safety of pedestrian access leading towards the town.
