MEMBERS of a Warlingham gym lifted 300,000kg of weights – the equivalent of about 200 family cars – in one day for two cancer charities.

About 20 members of Crossfit Devils Path, off Tithe Pit Shaw Lane, lifted the massive weight through a series of hourly workouts for Coppafeel, which aims to stamp out late detection of breast cancer, and Prostate Cancer UK.

Every time a participant lifted a weight overhead it was added to a grand total.

Graham Gibbs, one of the assistants at the gym, said: "It was really good. We raised just under £2,000 in total by the end.

"We started at 9 in the morning and finished about 5.30pm. The reason we ended up finishing was most people were starting to fall asleep. Even though we had lots of food, they were absolutely knackered."

Those lifting had family, friends and children to cheer them on.

Mr Gibbs added: "We will definitely be doing it again, it's going to be an annual event.
