REDHILL picked up a vital three points this evening (Tuesday) as they defeated fellow strugglers Horsham 2-0 at Kiln Brow.
Goals from Gavin Gordon and Joe Bingham proved the difference for Mike Maher's men in a game they could have won more comfortably, with the hosts having several good chances to add to their tally.
Both sides came into the match struggling near the foot of the Ryman League Division One South, with identical records in games won, drawn and lost, and five points from seven games, albeit with Redhill above their visitors on goal difference.
And the Lobsters carried the greater threat in attack early on, with Tyrone Pink's pace causing problems for the Horsham defence.
But it was his strike partner, Gavin Gordon, who made the breakthrough on 11 minutes, drilling the ball home after being found in acres of space in the box.
Horsham should have equalised six minutes later when Jamie Ampleford latched on to a long ball over the top of the Redhill defence, before turning inside Jon Difford to leave him one-on-one with former Horsham goalkeeper Michael Hunter, only to fire wide.
Pink was still a threat at the other end though and he should have made it 2-0 when he was found on the edge of the box by Joe Bingham, only for the striker to blaze over the bar.
Pink's finishing let him down again moments later as he was put through one-on-one with Horsham stopper Gareth Williams, only to put the ball wide under pressure by the covering defenders.
The rest of the half was a scrappy affair with little goalmouth action of note at either end, as the Lobsters held on to their 1-0 lead at the break.
But they doubled their advantage four minutes after the restart as Joe Bingham capitalised on some hesitant defending to slot the ball past Williams with a controlled right foot finish into the corner of the Horsham net.
Horsham could have reduced the deficit as the game reached the hour mark, but Tony Nwachukwu was denied by a superb save from Hunter, who flung himself to his right to divert the striker's header over the bar.
But as Horsham pressed for a route back into the game, Redhill continued to look threatening on the break, with Bingham and Gordon both going close to adding a third.
First, Bingham curled an effort from 25 yards onto Williams' left hand post with the goalkeeper beaten, before Gordon stabbed at a shot in a crowded area, only to see the ball cannon off the other post.
Horsham substitute Tom Bingham went close to a consolation at the other end with a stinging drive two minutes from time, but Redhill held firm at the back to keep a clean sheet and register their second league win of the season.
