A MOTHER who launched a road safety petition over fears her children will not be safe walking to school will be allowed to put her case to councillors.

In May, Pippa Timson launched a petition calling on Surrey county councillors to install a new pedestrian crossing in Pendleton Road, Redhill, close to the junction with Abinger Drive.

Her ten-year-old daughter Daisy will need to cross the busy road – which runs from Redhill to Woodhatch – when she starts at Reigate School in September 2015.

Since May, more than 700 people have signed her petition – more than the 500 needed for councillors to discuss the issue.

On September 22, Mrs Timson will present her proposal to councillors at a meeting of Surrey County Council's Reigate and Banstead neighbourhood committee.

She said: "Everyone has said they can't understand why a crossing was not put in years ago, we know that stretch of road is a death trap waiting to happen."

Now Mrs Timson is calling on supporters of her plan to join her at the public meeting.

The meeting is at 2pm at Reigate Town Hall in Castlefield Road.

The petition currently has 692 signatures online and a further 50 on paper copy.
