TESCO has unveiled its "store of the future" after giving its Hookwood branch a facelift.
The supermarket giant's superstore off Reigate Road was fully reopened last Monday having been partly closed for three months to allow work to take place.
Dave Collins, one of the store's managers, says the new look is inspired more by department stores than traditional supermarkets, a move which he believes brings Tesco up to date alongside top High Street brands.
He said: "A supermarket has a fairly standard look, usually and occasionally you get a few departments added on, like clothes or something like that.
"But if you go to John Lewis or Debenhams the way they are presented is very different: Everything is shown off, and that is what it is like if you walk into our store now.
"This is the store-of-the-future look for Tesco."
As well as addressing the layout, the revamp has introduced new services such as a coffee shop, a bakery – featuring artisan breads and pastries – and a new Beauty World department featuring make-up counters and a nail bar.
There is also a new-look grocery and fruit and veg department and people looking for a fresh meal can check out the Food to Go range and fresh pizza counter.
Store manager Amanda Dorrington said: "We're really excited to be able to officially unveil all the new departments and welcome our customers back to their newly improved and modernised store.
"All the changes have been made with our customers in mind and will mean they will be able to get the best possible experience when they shop with us."
She added: "We understand that during the work there has been some disruption in store and I would like to thank our customers for their patience and co-operation."
The refurbished store also includes a new community space for groups and charities to meet, host events and run workshops free of charge. The store is open 24 hours a day, Sunday midnight to Saturday midnight and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
