SNOW heralded the start of Christmas in Reigate's Lesbourne Road.

For the second year running, traders and residents united for a festive street party on Saturday night.

The road was closed off as fake snow fell on revellers who enjoyed the party, accompanied by music from band A Brilliant Life and Redhill Baptist Church's gospel choir.

Father Christmas roared in on a Harley-Davidson motocycle to kick off Christmas and EastEnders star Shane Richie who plays Alfie Moon joined the fun.

Paula White, from Oven Fresh Bakery in Lesbourne Road, said: "It went really well. It was a lot busier than last year and there was more going on.

"There was a brilliant spirit; it was very Christmassy. The children were all dancing on the stage."

Organisers estimate around 1,000 people joined the festivities, which raised money for the Patrick Evans Foundation.

Professor Twist created balloon animals to entertain children who were also enchanted by the bungee trampoline.

Louise Aspinall posted on Facebook: "Thank you for arranging this, lovely to see everyone enjoying the community spirit and 'big up' to the hardcore following that stayed until the end."

The Patrick Evans Foundation posted on Twitter: "Big thank you to everyone who took part in the Lesbourne Road street party.

"It was a fantastic evening full of fun, music, Shane Richie, food, Father Christmas and even snow."

The foundation was launched after Reigate teenager Patrick died on a skiing holiday in 2009. Today the charity helps and supports those struggling with illness and disease or bereavement and loss.

The final fundraising total has not yet been calculated.
