A MAN required extensive jaw surgery and a wisdom tooth removed after he was assaulted in Redhill town centre.

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday (December 13).

Officers say the 24-year-old had been out in Redhill and had walked to RoadRunners, in Station Road, to get a taxi when he was involved in an row with another man, which left him unconscious.

He was taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill but was later transferred to Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead for surgery for a broken jaw.

Detective Constable Karen Scholey, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was a very nasty GBH which has left the victim with a broken jaw requiring extensive surgery, including having a metal plate fitted. He has also had to have a wisdom tooth removed.

"We have viewed CCTV from the area but unfortunately it does not show the incident itself although there were two women who may have witnessed the attack, and we would like to speak to them.

"The victim could not provide a description of his attacker so we hoping that someone may come forward with a vital piece of information which could help us identify the perpetrator of this violent assault."

If you can help, call Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference 45140105066 or, if you prefer not to leave your name, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
