Lingfield set big ambition

LINGFIELD are looking to keep pace with the big hitters over the Christmas period, with boss Dixie Dean still targeting a top three finish.

Dean's men were without a game at the weekend after their home fixture with struggling AFC Uckfield was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

That leaves Lingfield in seventh place in the Sussex County League Division One, just one point behind local rivals East Grinstead Town and two behind Redhill in fifth.

And with games to come against both teams over the festive period, Dean is hoping to push on for a top three finish.

He said: "We are up there with East Grinstead and Redhill and the other big hitters and that isn't bad for leafy little Lingfield.

"We are punching well above our weight, but we are happy to be up there and we want to get into the top three.

"I will be disappointed if we don't."

Next up for Lingfield on Saturday is a trip to face Dorking Wanderers - a side they have already played three times this season.

After that, Lingfield face Redhill away and East Grinstead at home over the Christmas and New Year schedule, with Dean relishing the derby dates.

However, he said he does expect some tough games, with both sides riding high towards the top of the table.
