LOUIS WELLS will be giving it his all in his loan at Leatherhead – as he battles to win his place back in Dartford's team after injury.
The 30-year-old keeper is halfway through a month-long loan at the Tanners, but admits he would not rule out extending his time at Fetcham Grove.
However, his ultimate goal is to regain the number one shirt at the Conference Premier club after Dartford brought in Marcus Bettinelli on loan from Fulham following Wells' early-season injury.
"I got injured in the second game of the season for Dartford and was then out for two months so I needed to get games," Wells explained. "They got a loan keeper in during that time, so now it is a case of winning my place back. So, fingers crossed, I impress for Leatherhead and then I can go straight back in at Dartford.
"Obviously, I'm hoping to go back to Dartford at the end of my loan and be playing for them but I wouldn't rule out extending my loan. Never say never."
Having not played at the level before, Wells concedes he was not expecting much from Leatherhead or the Ryman League Division One South, but has found himself pleasantly surprised.
"It's good and I'll be honest, it is better than what I thought it was going to be," Wells admitted.
"They are a good bunch of lads here. It is going well and we are getting better defensively and hopefully I've contributed some good saves."
Wells' loan finishes at the end of December, but with a busy fixture list ahead, the keeper is hoping to leave the Tanners in contention for the play-offs.
