DESPITE dominating possession in the first half, Merstham U14s suffered a 3-2 loss against Shelton Athletic Colts.
Shelton took their chance first scoring after six minutes.
But so dominant were Merstham it was hard to see how they did not score at least three goals themselves.
Ben Brown, Morgan Chatfield, Ben Ellis, Alfie Harris and Lewis Fitzwalter all had attempts on goal. Merstham only had themselves to blame and lapses in concentration gave two more chances to Shelton which they gratefully took.
It was only at 3-0 down that Merstham stepped up a gear.
They peppered the Shelton goal time and time again. Finally it was Harris who got Merstham back into the game.
Five minutes later and Fitzwalter doubled Merstham's goal tally. This set up a frantic final ten minutes but Shelton managed to hold on.
