REDHILL climbed to within four points of safety, with as many as four games in hand over some of the sides directly above them, after beating Horsham 4-0 on Saturday.
The Lobsters had billed the game as one they must not lose, but they did better than that in a dominant second half at Gorings Mead.
Tyrone Pink opened the scoring after 53 minutes and with it, the floodgates. Skipper Jon Difford made it 2-0 after 62 minutes before Alex Teniola and Leonardo Mazzone finished off the scoring.
The Hornets finished with ten men as Tom Hughes was sent off on the stroke of full-time, with the score already 4-0.
Merstham further narrowed the gap on second-placed Faversham Town by coming from behind to beat Hastings United.
The Sussex side took the lead after 27th minutes through Evan Archibald, but Merstham levelled through Tommy Hutchings after 55 minutes and took all three points thanks to an 81st minutes Omar Folkes winner.
With Faversham losing 2-1 at Hythe Town, Merstham are now just five points off second place with a game in hand over their Kent rivals.
Chipstead earned all three points in Simon Colbran's first game in charge, beating play-off chasing Whitstable Town 1-0.
The Chips went into the game without a win in eight, but a 22nd minute goal from Will Turl ended that run.
