A FORMER borough councillor has been selected as the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Reigate in the general election.
Anna Tarrant, who has lived in the town all her life, will be contesting Tory MP Crispin Blunt's seat in May.
She was a member of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council between May 2008 and 2012.
She said: "This was a great four years when I learned so much about how our area is run, both what works and what doesn't and the challenges faced.
"During this time, amongst many other things, I helped to obtain funding for play equipment for children with disabilities, campaigned for a school crossing and worked with a number of local charities and voluntary organisations.
"Several of these I am still involved with today."
Ms Tarrant attended Dovers Green School, Reigate Priory and Reigate College. She then graduated from Reading University with a social work degree and was a probation officer before training as a teacher.
Alongside this, she has worked for the South East Region Liberal Democrats. Ms Tarrant said: "I am a Liberal Democrat at heart and for me this is the party that offers the best philosophy and policies for equality, diversity and community."
Her particular interests include improving provision for young people, the NHS and mental health care.
She added: "The environment is extremely important to me, as is housing, where I want to address the very difficult housing issues."
