HOODIES and using mobile phones are unacceptable, pupils at Caterham's de Stafford School have been reminded.

Writing to parents, head teacher Jeremy Garner said: "It has been pleasing to note how smart the vast majority of students look and the pride that they take in their personal appearance.

"Could I request your continued support in ensuring that your son/daughter wears the correct uniform each day?

"Students have been reminded that hooded tops are not allowed in school and are liable to be confiscated if worn.

"Likewise, the uniform policy clearly states that students may wear one pair of simple stud earrings; any unacceptable piercings will be expected to be removed."

Mr Garner said the school recognised the importance of emerging technologies in the likes of video recording and internet access, but added: "On occasion, teachers utilise these functions to aid teaching and learning and, as such, students may have the opportunity to use their mobile phones in the classroom under the clear direction and supervision of their class teacher.

"However, it is certainly not necessary for students to bring a mobile phone in to school and, if they choose to do so, the school cannot accept any liability for the device if it is lost, damaged or stolen.

"Mobile phones should not be used to make calls at any point during the school day; any contact with home should always be made through student services.

"If a student fails to meet our acceptable use policy and abuses the privilege of bringing their phone to school they are liable to have it confiscated for a period of time."
