Sutton and East Surrey Water to cut customers' bills after government watchdog's decision

SUTTON and East Surrey Water (SESW) customers are to see a reduction in their bills.

On Monday, the company announced it would accept the decision from Ofwat, the body which regulates water prices in England and Wales, regarding permitted charges for water until 2020.

This means the average household water bill will fall from the current £186-a-year to £180 by 2019/20.

Every five years, Ofwat sets limits on how much companies can charge for water. Water companies can then decide how much they charge, as long as they do not exceed the levels set out by Ofwat. Since December, SESW bosses have been factoring Ofwat's limits into their financial plans for the coming years before announcing final charges.

SESW managing director Anthony Ferrar said: "We will now be focusing our attention on delivering the key outcomes highlighted in our business plan to ensure they can be delivered within the total cost allowances included in Ofwat's determination."
