RESIDENTS in Caterham have seen the light thanks to the creative endeavours of two households.
The amazing illuminations on a pair of homes just 100 yards apart have delighted young and old alike, and in some cases stopped traffic.
Father-of-two Derek Brister enjoys decorating his property in Le Personne Road, Caterham, more than most each December.
Mr Brister, 47, who was born in Colorado, said: "Christmas decorations are a big thing in the States, so I carried on the tradition when we moved here five years ago.
"My kids are convinced Santa does it all. I start putting everything up once they have gone to school, so it's all up and colourful by the time they come home."
Not to be outdone, there are 31 sets of lights adorning the Ryan family's home in nearby Garland Way. Mum of four Debbie, 46, said: "I get a real kick out of Christmas. The only bad time is when my husband Sean and his friend Robert are clambering about on the roof putting the lights up. I'm a nervous wreck."
