A CHECKOUT girl was expected to be "the busiest in the country" this Christmas, according to her supermarket.
Waitrose calculated that its Dorking branch would take more sales per square foot on December 22 than any other in the country, with Louise Beaver expected to be the busiest employee, serving approximately 300 customers.
Waitrose said the 21-year-old's till was located at the end of most customers' shopping route and closest to the wine aisle, making her a popular choice for shoppers.
She said: "I love Christmas and as soon as the decorations go up in our branch it gets me in the festive mood.
"The build-up to the main event is really busy, but I find it an enjoyable time to work as I like to chat to my customers about how they're planning to celebrate.
"As shoppers carry out their festive supermarket dash a smile goes a long way, and we work hard to make sure that the checkout operation is as smooth as possible, by having extra staff to help out with things like bag packing."
December 23 is usually the busiest day of the year for food shopping but, due to it falling on a Sunday this year, Saturday was expected to be busier.
Ms Beaver has worked at Waitrose part-time for 18 months, and has taken on extra hours in the run-up to Christmas.
Waitrose spokeswoman Sue Finnegan said: "Louise's till is located in a very practical space which makes it the busiest in the branch.
"She has also built up a good rapport with customers, with many making a beeline to her checkout."
The supermarket had not confirmed whether its pre-Christmas prediction became a reality as the Advertiser went to press.
