FOOTBALL: A rematch of the first ever FA Cup final will be held at Surrey County Cricket Club next week.
Royal Engineers will take on Wanderers at the Oval on Wednesday, October 7 in a recreation of the 1872 showpiece, which was held on the same ground.
The 140th anniversary of the event will be marked with a game between the two original teams, who still play in non-league circles.
The two teams will be joined by guest professionals and former cup winners in a match that will raise funds for Haig Housing Trust, the Royal British Legion and other local football charities.
In the late 19th century, the Oval was the country's national sports stadium, holding the first ever international rugby match in England versus Scotland in 1872.
Charles Alcock captained the Wanderers and led them to victory, managing to defend a 1-0 lead for 75 minutes after an early goal from Morton Betts.
The match kicks off at 7pm, but gates to the Oval will open at 2.30pm for a schools tournament.
Tickets cost £10 for adults and £1 for U16s.
