AN OLYMPIC helper hopes to score a number one single as part of a group of London 2012 volunteers.

Linda Tippelt, of Cannon Grove, Fetcham, is a member of the 400-strong choir of Games Makers – the name given to the army of Olympic volunteers – who have released a charity single titled I Wish For The World.

All proceeds from the single will go to the British Olympic Foundation and British Paralympic Association, to be used to help young people pursue their dreams of competing at the Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Ms Tippelt, 55, said: "The idea and the sentiment of the song is about giving something back and everyone involved in this inspiring and emotive single hopes that it will keep the Olympic spirit alive for all.

"The song really sums up the feelings of the Games Makers. A lot was made of the good job that we did but we were just enjoying ourselves and were lucky to be a part of it.

"For me, because I have also played sport a lot and it is a passion, as soon as I heard we were going to get the Olympics I applied."

Ms Tippelt joined the choir after reading an article by group founder Victoria Verbi following the end of the London Games.

Two days later she and 200 others had joined and the group has since sung at the Southbank Centre, the Ideal Home Exhibition and at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony.

The choir also performed a one-off concert at Fetcham Park House in November, raising more than £13,000 for Dorking charity Be@itudes.

The single was recorded with all 400 members dressed in their recognisable purple and red outfits, led by Fame Academy musician Alistair Griffin.

Ms Tippelt said: "It was a fitting end to a wonderful summer.

"To join together all the people who had made the Games succeed was a great thing.

"You never know what doors are going to open.

"No one expected us to have the summer we had or the impact we've made."

She added: "There are no expectations but we are about making things happen."
