HOSPITAL staff have donated beds to a charity working with sick people in Africa and Asia.
The 28 beds were donated by staff at Epsom and St Helier hospitals to Aid to Hospitals Worldwide, a social enterprise specialising in providing developing countries with free medical equipment.
The beds will be taken to new homes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Pakistan.
Head of facilities Jane Ward said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to make this donation, as we know there are many deserving people who will benefit from them.
"Knowing that these beds will provide some comfort to some sick people in Somalia, Pakistan and Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as giving the doctors and nurses a vital piece of kit, is heart-warming."
The charity's chief executive Mike Coleman said: "It's hard to picture the comfort or measure the benefits that outdated medical equipment brings to patients in poorer countries.
"What we would discard as outdated has massive health implications for many millions without proper provision in the developing world. We thank Epsom and St Helier hospitals for their kind contribution."
