IT'S the perfect plaice to celebrate your big day – especially if you are sole mates.

An Oxted fish and chip shop is now hosting wedding receptions for those who want to save a few squid.

Deep Blue, in Station Road East, can cater for up to 40 guests in its restaurant. "We were very much led by public demand and fish and chips is of course a very traditional meal," said Avril Low, the shop's marketing administrator.

"We have found that, lately, perhaps in light of the current economic climate and because of changing trends, lots of inquiries were made as to whether we could provide a wedding breakfast.

"When the inquiries flooded in we decided to offer our staff and expertise to make a special day even more special."

The shop has already hosted one wedding reception and has two bookings for 2013.

A typical wedding menu might consist of soup, breaded mushrooms or calamari, followed by fish and chips. Alternative mains are available, such as panfried salmon or spatchcock chicken, burgers and vegetarian burgers. The restaurant is fully licensed to serve alcohol.

The shop, along with the Redhill branch of the chain, also caters and delivers food to events held elsewhere, for up to 300 people.

"It's fun, it's something different and it's becoming trendy. A lot of young people are asking for fish and chip wedding breakfasts," said Ms Low.

As of yet, Deep Blue has no plans to branch out into wedding services, but she did not rule out letting customers get married on the premises in future.

She said: "I don't think anyone has asked us yet, but we'll have to look into it."
