A STREETSIDE pizzeria is determined to offer discounts to the emergency services, despite running foul of anti-bribery rules.
The Mobile Pizzeria, run by husband and wife pair Tim and Annabelle McFeeters, has launched a £2 discount scheme – equal to around 20 per cent – for 999 staff as a thank you for their hard work.
The offer is available to ambulance and fire staff but providing the discounted pizza to Surrey Police conflicts with the force's anti-bribery rules.
But Mr McFeeters is determined not to be beaten and is planning to get in touch with new Surrey police commissioner Kevin Hurley to resolve the issue. The couple see this scheme as their way of giving something back.
"We rely on them and we would be stuffed without them," Mr McFeeters told the Mirror.
He was inspired to implement the discount because his mother and sister both work at East Surrey Hospital.
"The police rules don't stop the ambulance and fire brigade discount with us," he said.
A passionate cook since he was young, Mr McFeeters and his wife decided to start up a food business while on their honeymoon in the south of France last April.
Since July they have offered artisan oven-cooked pizzas around Surrey, and now set up in Reigate every Tuesday and Brockham every Wednesday.
The pair, who live in Smallfield, offer seven different types of pizza from their mobile oven Irene, which is named after Mr McFeeters' grandmother, who taught him to cook.
"There are a lot of mobile food ovens along the coast in France," added the 26-year-old.
The Mobile Pizzeria now has a few dedicated customers whose orders the couple remember and they have recently branched out into charity events.
They were involved with a memorial skatepark jam for murdered Croydon teenager Chris Isted held in Reigate, and are involved with raising money for the air ambulance.
"It is fantastic running your own business," Mr McFeeters added.
