THE director of a Dorking-based company is preparing to take on the "challenge of a lifetime" by trekking through the Nepalese mountains for charity.
Steve Prior, director of marketing and advertising at Engage consultancy in Curtis Road, will tackle deep forests and traverse terrain at altitudes above 3,000m as part of the Trek Nepal challenge, which aims to raise £60,000 for Parkinson's UK.
The 42-year-old has been inspired to take on the feat by his mother-in-law, who was diagnosed with the condition 12 years ago, and went on to set up a branch of the charity near her home in Scarborough.
Mr Prior said: "I signed up for Trek Nepal to push the boundaries and to help Parkinson's UK with their research work to find a cure.
"They do fantastic work supporting people with Parkinson's, and their families, which is something I've experienced first-hand."
Paul Jackson-Clark, director of fundraising at Parkinson's UK, said: "Scaling heights of over 3,000 metres is a huge challenge and we are incredibly grateful to Steve for his support.
"I hope he will have an experience he will never forget, and that his success will encourage others to take part in future overseas events for the charity."
Trek Nepal takes place between November 9 and 19. For more information, visit www.parkinsons.org.uk/overseas or call 020 7932 1328.
