A MAN was hit round the head with a large spanner in Merstham on Wednesday.
The attack took place around 9.35am when the victim was walking along Nutfield Road. The suspect drove a red car at the man before hitting him on the head with the weapon causing minor injuries.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Audrey Cumisky from Reigate CID said: "At this stage in the investigation we do not believe that this was a random assault and that the victim and the suspect are known to each other.
"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the assault or the events surrounding it to contact officers with information as we need to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
Reigate and Banstead Neighbourhood Sergeant Dan Gutierrez, said: "Incidents of this nature are rare and I hope the Merstham community take some reassurance in the fact that we believe it is not a random assault and we will closely with the community throughout this investigation."
Officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out enquiries in the area in a bid to locate the person responsible.
