FRIMLEY Park Hospital NHS Trust is to hold talks on a possible acquisition of services at the debt-ridden Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals in East Berkshire.
A statement released on Friday (January) said the the Boards of Heatherwood& Wexham Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are undertaking a joint exercise to investigate whether there could be benefits to patients of a closer working partnership between the two hospital trusts.
The statement continued: "The objective of the exercise will be to discover how acute patient care and services can be further improved across East Berkshire and surrounding areas.
"Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will be the lead partner in undertaking the analysis with full co-operation from Heatherwood& Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust Hospital staff and Board.
"East Berkshire Commissioners are supportive of proposals that can offer the best sustainable solution for acute healthcare services in the area.
"Over the next few weeks an initial assessment will be made. Depending upon the outcome of this assessment, a decision will be taken as to whether Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will lead a due diligence process to fully investigate the effect of apotential acquisition. "If the initial assessment does not indicate significant benefits, no further work will be undertaken."
