A BARMAID has warned women not to walk home alone at night after a man followed her in a car.
Sarah Bowring was left shaking and in tears from the incident.
She was walking home from The King and Queen pub in High Street, Caterham, towards Chaldon Road at about 12.15am last Wednesday when she noticed someone creeping behind her in a car.
"I thought it was nothing at first, but then it passed and turned around," said the 22-year-old.
"By now I was petrified as I have been attacked in similar circumstances."
Miss Bowring called her fiancé straight away, but her phone kept cutting out.
"He was clearly worried, and as this was happening the guy drove past yet again and I began to run," she added.
"I thought he had gone but suddenly, as I approached Homestead Road, he tried to cut me off.
"I ran down Homestead [Road] and my fiancé rang me.
"He immediately came to help. By now I was shaking and crying, I had no idea what to do.
"I tripped and fell as I ran and cut my face and leg.
"I hid for a few minutes until I could hear my fiancé."
The couple then drove around looking for the car, which she has described as a silver saloon-type car, with a 58-registration plate.
Miss Bowring added: "This is the second time something like this has happened to me. This has scared me, but I'm so glad I got away."
Surrey Police are investigating the incident. Information to officers on 101.
