DORKING Wanderers manager Marc White was delighted to see two of his forward players return to the scoresheet in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Sidley United.

White's side had not won since beating Crowborough Athletic on February 9, and it wouldn't have flattered them if they had got a few more.

"Their goalkeeper played quite well, but the scoreline could have been a lot wider than what it was," he said.

"It was nice to get a couple of early goals, and lately we haven't been winning games so that took a bit of the pressure away.

"Recently we've only been beaten twice and we got around four draws.

"It was nice to see both forwards, Liam Holden and Michael Death, get a goal each, because they haven't been scoring much."

And White's side were boosted by the return of a couple of players, which allowed him to reshape his starting formation in a bid to get all three points.

"We brought Martin Merritt back into the midfield, and he's been out with an injury for a month, plus Jerome Beckles came back into midfield too," he said.

"There were a few players that hadn't played for a while who were welcomed back so it made a difference and the boys up top got a bit more service.

Wanderers weren't scheduled to play on Tuesday night, but after heavy snowfall across Sussex on Monday, the majority of the fixtures were postponed.

But White admits he would have liked to have played soon after Saturday's win to keep the players' spirits up. "When you win, you'd rather carry on playing, but there's only 11 games to go and we're acutely aware that as many games as we win, others are winning around us," he said.

"Once we're in form, we want to stay in form really.

"The target is to get away from relegation and I'm aware of the teams around us like Chichester and Selsey, because their form is top five in the league.

"They are putting in a good effort against relegation so it's going to go to the wire down there. I think we'd like to win half our remaining games."

With a tough trip to title-chasing Rye United this Saturday, White admits he'd take a point now despite the hosts losing their manager.

"Rye's boss has just left them, but I don't know if that's going to be a good thing or a bad thing," said White.

"There are certain games where if you can get anything out of it, it will be a bonus and I think this Saturday is one of them."
