THE number of East Surrey residents claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) rose in February, figures released this morning show.
Nationally, unemployment rose by 7,000 between November and February.
Last month in Tandridge, the number of people claiming JSA went up to 917, compared with 879 people in January.
In Reigate and Banstead, February's figure rose to 1,603 people, up from 1,588 the previous month.
However, it was better news in Mole Valley, where the number of people claiming the benefit fell slightly, from 710 to 704.
The proportion of the population signing on remains lower than for the South East and UK as a whole.
