AN ASHCOMBE schoolgirl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a Range Rover outside Dorking train station.
The pupil, thought to be in Year 7, was struck on Station Approach at 3.40pm. Although she was shaken, she is not thought to be seriously injured.
David Blackmore, news editor at the Dorking and Leatherhead Advertisers, said the girl was struck close to the subway which takes pupils under the busy A24 from the mixed secondary school to the train station.
He added: "When I arrived at the scene, there was a teacher directing traffic around the Range Rover.
"Pupils from the school were also gathered in small groups by where the incident happened, which was directly outside Mole Valley Housing Association headquarters at Regents House and close to the Lincoln Arms pub.
"There was genuine shock and concern over what had happened from both parents and pupils."
Police were quick to arrive at the scene following the collision at 3.40pm.
"The police van blocked one lane as the officer spoke to the driver of the vehicle and other eyewitnesses," Mr Blackmore added.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman confirmed the 12-year-old girl was taken to East Surrey Hospital complaining of abdominal pains.
Witnesses should call police on 101 quoting P13080933.
