A BOMB scare at Dorking's recycling centre turned out to be a false alarm.
The Community Recycling Centre in Ranmore Road was closed shortly after midday following reports of a suspicious device in a bin.
Rumours circulated online that staff had found hand grenades on the site.
But members of the Surrey Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team identified the device as a firework shaped as a grenade.
Queues built up outside the centre as staff closed the gates while police investigated.
Officers later removed the device and reopened the centre.
