A MAN has been charged following a burglary at a pet store in Dorking.
The incident occurred around 12.15am on Sunday (March 31) at Pets Corner on West Street when offenders gained entry by forcing open the fire exit.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and carried out an area search when a vehicle was seen being driven in suspicious circumstances and officers believed it may connect to the burglary.
An attempt was made to stop the car but it made off and police continued to follow it through Leatherhead and Ashtead before it stopped just outside of Epsom Town Centre.
A short time later a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lewis Flanagan from Epsom CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who has information on this offence to contact officers and help bring those responsible to justice.
"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area in the days prior to the offence taking place? Or have you heard anyone discussing the incident and think they may be involved? If so, please contact Surrey Police with the details."
Nothing was taken in the burglary but around £1,400 worth of damage was caused to the store.
On Monday, Darren Axten, 23, of Caterham Drive, Coulsdon was charged with burglary and is due to appear at court at a later date.
Officers believe a total of three people were involved in the burglary and appeal to anyone who has further information to contact them on 101 quoting reference MV/13/1205 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
