A MAN has been charged following a burglary at a pet store in Dorking on Sunday.
The burglary happened at 12.15am at Pets Corner in West Street, when intruders broke in by forcing open the fire exit. Nothing was taken in the burglary but about £1,400 worth of damage was caused to the store.
After being called to the scene, police carried out a search of the area and noticed a vehicle being driven in suspicious circumstances.
Believing it may be connected to the burglary, an attempt was made to stop the car but it made off. Police continued to follow it through Leatherhead and Ashtead, before it stopped just outside Epsom town centre.
On Monday, Darren Axten, 23, of Caterham Drive, Coulsdon, was charged with burglary and is due to appear at court at a later date.
Officers believe three people were involved in the burglary and have appealed for anyone who has further information to contact them.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lewis Flanagan of Epsom CID said: "I would appeal to anyone who has information on this offence to contact officers and help bring those responsible to justice.
"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area in the days prior to the offence taking place? Or have you heard anyone discussing the incident and think they may be involved? If so, please contact Surrey Police with the details."
