Easter Visitors
Over the Easter weekend, the Coddington family from Baltimore in the States paid a visit to Bletchingley, staying at the Whyte Harte in the High Street. Five years ago, Peter Coddington came to Bletchingley to research his ancestors, one of whom he discovered had been christened in St Mary's church in 1530. This time, Peter, his wife Lisa and sons Blake and Ryan, were on a mission to find out more about Coddington ancestors and further research showed that this same ancestor later became landlord of the Whyte Hart from 1567 - 1606 (his death) at which time his widow, Joan Stockdale had the innkeeper's licence transferred to her. Sometime after this, she and other members of her family are thought to have left England for religious reasons and settled on the east coast of America. The Coddngton ancestors have left no ghostly vibes at the Whyte Harte but the family much enjoyed their stay in Bletchingley, visiting the church on Easter Day.
