JON LEWIS says this week's LV= County Championship Division One opener against Somerset will be a good marker for Surrey.
The experienced seamer is embarking on his second season with the Kia Oval outfit and he says he cannot wait to get started this year after a great pre-season.
Somerset are the first opponents for Surrey, with the Championship's nearly men of recent years visiting south east London tomorrow (Wednesday) off the back of a 48 run defeat at Durham last week.
But the 38-year-old is expecting a tough test as Surrey look to kick off the 2013 season with a win.
"They are a good side," he said.
"I think they will be a really good test for us.
"They are consistently good in this division and it will be a good marker for us of where we are.
"It won't be the be all and end all, but it will be a good marker to work out where we are as a side."
Play starts at the Kia Oval at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday).
