AN ADVICE group for mothers who are breastfeeding their newborns has been launched by East Surrey Hospital.

The 11 O'Clock Stop, organised by Min Chadd, an infant feeding adviser at the hospital, will provide parents with tips and guidance on breastfeeding in the early days, as well as advice on what to expect, how to spot any problems and who to talk to for help.

A team of supporters – all mothers who have breastfed in the past – will run the group, which will be held six days a week in the day room of the Burstow ward at the Canada Avenue site. They have all attended a 12-week training course and will be able to offer advice to families.

"I breastfed my children and with my first I had quite a few problems in the early days and didn't know what to expect," said mum Kirsty Horner.

"We have the time to sit and talk to new parents and we hope we can make them feel more confident in their ability to breastfeed their babies."

The group will be held from Mondays to Saturdays and is open to all mums and dads, along with siblings and relatives.
