London Marathon runners in Surrey face travel problems

RUNNERS in the London Marathon face a travel headache getting into the capital from Dorking due to emergency engineering work. Work will be carried out on a recently discovered rail defect between London Waterloo and Vauxhall which will close platforms 1-10 of London Waterloo until 4pm on Sunday (April 21). Dorking to London Waterloo services at 8 and 38 minutes past the hour will terminate at Wimbledon. The 3.38pm service from Dorking will be the first train to run through to London Waterloo and all subsequent departures will continue as normal. London Waterloo to Dorking services will start from Wimbledon at 29 and 50 minutes past the hour until 3.29pm. The 5.02pm service will be the first train to start from London Waterloo. From 4.08pm London Waterloo to Dorking services will run hourly in both directions. A train service will run between London Waterloo and Wimbledon in both directions but these services are expected to be very busy. A Southern Rail spokesman said: "If our Journey Planner asks you to change trains at Raynes Park instead of Wimbledon, it may be advisable to change trains at Wimbledon instead because of the London Marathon. "London Marathon - Participants and spectators are strongly advised to check your journey before you travel and allow extra time to complete your journey. "Only a very limited service to and from London Waterloo will run before 4pm and trains are expected to be extremely busy." The disruption will also affect services to and from Guildford, Chessington South, Windsor and Eton Riverside and Shepperton Passengers may use and First Great Western, Southern, London Overground and London Underground services until 5pm and ticket restrictions on advanced tickets will be lifted.
