During the Easter Holidays there were four days of activities for children at the East Surrey Museum, in Stafford Road, Caterham, and Over 200 people came along to the sessions which included a lesson in how to make a windmill. The revamped Children's Room was very popular and thanks are given to Charlotte Younger, a history graduate who has a flair for presentation and layout. The ethos of the room has at the same time been maintained - that is, there are plenty of "touchy feely" things for children to "experience" Visit the website www.eastsurreymuseum.org.uk or call 01883-340275.
Meanwhile, the East Surrey Museum needs a little help with a question and asks if you can assist. At the bottom end of Waller Lane, just behind the East Surrey Museum, there are some decorative bricks or tiles built into the stone retaining wall alongside Bishams Court. There are two different sizes of tile and four different designs. The smaller tiles are about 150mm square and all carry the same "leafy" pattern. There are five tiles visible. The larger tiles are about 225mm square. Two of them bear different "flower head" designs and the other two have a "three leaf" pattern. Do you know the origin of these? Were they salvaged from "Bishams" or one of the other houses that once stood along Waller Lane?
