Breaking news within the village concerns the future of The Railway Arms in the High Street. It had been thought that negotiations between Alan Linton of The Marquis Of Granby in Hooley Lane, Redhill, and Punch Taverns, had stalled irretrievably, but this has proved far from the case, and the popular hostelry is due to reopen by the weekend of May 11/12. It had been originally hoped that it would be trading again by Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, but the uncertainty of stock deliveries during the bank holiday period made this impracticable.
The new venture is being run on Alan's behalf by South African born, Lara Burling, her daughter Jessica, and son-in-law, Michael, who are all moving to the village from Hookwood, Near Horley. Extensive redecoration has already taken place to the bar and kitchen areas, and the trio, who will remain until such time as Punch Taverns appoint a permanent tenant, are committed to restoring the community atmosphere, so synonymous with the venue, including the reforming of dart and pool teams, reintroduction of quiz evenings, and serving of real "pub grub" inhouse..
