Quiz Night
The Charity Quiz Night held on the 27th April in the Church Hall, was very well supported. It was held for two charities, the Tadworth Children's Trust and the Princess Alice Hospice. Charlotte Smith, Kathryn Budd, Chloe Chorlton and Hayley Budd are all to do a sky dive in September. Alan Smith was the Quiz Master for the evening, and kept all in order. A raffle was held in the interval. Thanks go to all who supported the event, which raised £500.00. The next Charity Quiz night will be June 15th.
Nature
There has been much activity around the village by the birds this last week. Reports that Black-caps in gardens, especially in Josephine Avenue and Mogador have been seen. The villager who reported this had not seen a Black-cap for a few years, he also spotted swallows near the Heath and also House Martins and Swifts, all making it feel summer was on the way. Also busy are Blue tits building their nests. Mornings have heard the cry of the Green Woodpecker across the fields. Another villager has remarked how beautiful all the bird song has been recently. Another villager was thrilled to spot one evening some Hares, leaping and jumping in fields near the Margery. It has been a pleasant week, but still a chilly wind had been felt, especially on Saturday May 4th. Reports that the Bluebells are showing signs of bloom, so this will delight many in the village.
Cameo
The May meeting of Cameo Club will take place on Monday May 13th at 2pm at the Evangelical Church in Smithy Lane. All are welcome that afternoon.
9th Reigate Scout Group
The 9th Reigate Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, all took part in a Bag Pack at Asda on Saturday 4th May. They raised£1037.22p. Two Scouts achieved their Community Challenge badges. They made everyone proud, especially their parents, as they did 7 hours of the Bag Pack. The Group wish to convey their thanks to all who helped that day, as without them it would not have been possible to do so well. The leaders of the group were very proud of all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, as their behaviour was exemplary.
The Cubs also had a Local History evening on Thursday May 2nd,when Marjorie Knight went along to the Scout Hut, to speak and show the cubs some of the memorabilia that has she collected. Many questions were asked. The Cubs and leaders thanked Marjorie for her time.
Village Fete
A perfect day greeted all to the Lower Kingswood Village Fete on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May. The recreation ground was lovely and dry, permitting all the gazebos to be put up without the usual interference from gale force winds. Crowds soon gathered in the afternoon, with all the events and stalls having a very busy time. The dog show really attracted a marvellous variety of dogs and gave the onlookers a great deal of pleasure. Visitors to the fete really enjoyed the sunshine and warmth, right up to closing time allowing families to sit and chat. A further report will be next week, but many thanks to all who took part.
