A TEENAGE girl believes she was followed by a man in a white van in Ashtead on Friday. The schoolgirl was cycling along Craddocks Avenue with a friend at 3:15pm when she first noticed the man, who was driving what is believed to have been a Ford Transit van. The girl then noticed the van on several occasions throughout her journey home. Although at one point the man left his vehicle, he did not make physical contact with the girl or attempt to talk to her. Investigating officer PC Oliver Thomas from East Surrey CID, said: "This incident was obviously very concerning for the girl and her family and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time it took place to contact officers with information. "We are still in the early stages of the investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and are carrying out a number of enquiries in the local area. "I would appeal to the driver of the van to contact officers to ascertain the reason behind his movements and to establish if any offence has taken place." PC Chris Lewis from the Mole Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Local officers are assisting detectives with their investigation and would urge anyone who has concerns around this incident to contact them on 101 or speak to them while they are out on patrol." The man is described as being in his 40s, with dark hair and a dark complexion. He was of medium to large build wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference MV/13/1728. More information about personal safety can be found by visiting www.surrey.police.uk.
