LATE night shoppers will enjoy free parking in the run-up to Christmas in Camberley.

Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) is waiving fees in Main Square and Knoll Road car parks from 5pm every Thursday evening from November 22 for five weeks.

It means car park users will save £4.50 per evening for trips to town centre shops, which will stay open until 8pm in the run-up to Christmas.

The Atrium shopping centre is also offering free parking in its car park on the same evenings.

The first of the five free parking evenings coincides with the town centre's Christmas lights switch on and lantern parade from 5.30pm in the High Street.

SHBC executive portfolio holder for transformation, Cllr Colin Dougan, said: "Camberley has an excellent mix of shops, as well as restaurants, cafes and other leisure facilities, making it a great place to do your Christmas shopping.

"We are pleased to support the town centre, its shoppers, retailers and businesses by waiving parking charges for late night shopping on Thursdays over the next five weeks."
