LONDON 2012 Olympic medallist Karina Bryant will illuminate Camberley for the town's first ever outdoor Christmas lights switch on.
The Judo champion, who won a bronze medal at the summer games, will join Santa for the switch-on at 7.15pm on Thursday November 22.
Events start at 5.30pm in High Street, marking the start of five weeks' of late night shopping in the town centre where stores will be open until 8pm every Thursday.
The evening's entertainment will include local dance troupes and a performance from local singing star Danny Cooper who is currently competing in Factor Essex – one of the biggest talent searches in the country.
Following the performances, a London 2012 torchbearer will join mascots from local businesses and school children in a procession through the town centre, ending up at the main stage in the high street.
The celebrations will continue with an hour-long performance from the Take That Experience at 7.30pm.
A Christmas lights switch-on happens each year at The Mall shopping centre, but this will be the first time the illuminations have been outdoors.
Shelly Ford, Business Improvement District manager for Collectively Camberley which is organising the evening, said: "Brought to you by Collectively Camberley, the first ever Christmas lights switch on in Camberley promises to be an exciting event so I do hope as many people as possible will come and join us in this celebration."
