A BODY found in the River Thames at Walton Bridge is believed to be that of an elderly local man, police have said.
Formal identification of the body, which was spotted floating in the water by a construction worker at the new bridge site on Monday (November 12), is yet to take place.
A police spokeswoman said on Wednesday (November 14): "Surrey Police is treating the death of a man whose body was found in the river at Lower Halliford as non-suspicious.
"Officers were called to Walton Bridge Road, Lower Halliford, shortly after 9am on Monday, 12 November, following a report that the body of a man had been found in the river under the bridge.
"The body has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be a man is his 80s who lived in the local area.
"The circumstances surrounding the death have been investigated however at this stage it is not believed there was any third party involvement and the death is not being treated as suspicious. The matter has been passed to the coroner's office."
