CAMEO CLUB

The Cameo Club met on the afternoon of Monday May 13th, at the Evangelical Church in Smithy Lane. Paul Burden welcomed all to the meeting, and had received a few apologies, and also welcomed a new member.
Strollers will be meeting on the Bank Holiday Monday May 26th, which will be a first, as this is not usually a day for a stroll.Paul Burden gave the afternoon talk on Wales. He explained that when he was growing up he used to see the ferry, arrive from Swansea and Barry to Weston-Super Mare, but did not visit Wales until 1995, when he and his wife Chris travelled there. They travelled to Hay-on Wye, which is 193 miles from Lower Kingswood, and explored that area, before travelling on to Llandudno, another 150miles. They also visited Abergerveny and its amazing Tapestry which had taken 6 years to make. Paul accompanied the talk with some interesting slides. Wales has many different castles, also built in varying styles. He explained how the Snowdon Railway operates as a rack and pin railway. Snowdon itself was shrouded in mist on their visit. Chris and Paul were very taken with all the wonderful scenery in Wales and its lovely beaches. Jim Murkett thanked Paul on behalf on members for such an interesting afternoon. All then enjoyed their tea and cakes. The afternoon ended with an epilogue from Jim Murkett. The next meeting in June will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation.

BLUEBELLS

Villagers and other walkers have been able to enjoy the wonderful sight of the bluebells during the week. There are a great many, out this year and when the sun shines on them and the fresh green of the newly opened beech leaves it is a real delight. Some villagers who were able to walk on the morning of Thursday May 16th, were really lucky with warm sun and very little wind, and were able to sit on Colley Hill enjoying the far distant views, and while they were sitting saw five Buzzards enjoying the thermals from the hills to glide and circle, and then disappear among the clouds. How lucky they felt to be able to enjoy such views so near home. The cows too were enjoying the new grass and seem to take no notice of the walkers and dogs enjoying the hill. Also remarked upon this spring have been the vast amount of Dandelions, anyone who makes Dandelion wine must be delighted.
BISHOP'S VISIT

The Parish received a visit from Bishop Jonathan of Croydon on Friday May 17th. The Vicar Garth Barber escorted him around Lower Kingswood, as it was the Bishop's first visit to the Parish. He visited the Wisdom of God first, and then went to St Andrews to meet parishioners. He was entertained for lunch, and then later met members of the PCC.
