DETECTIVES in Surrey have launched a murder enquiry after a pensioner who was injured in a house fire in the Slyfield Green area of Guildford at the weekend died in hospital today (Thursday 11 July).
Officers were alerted to the fire in a residential property shortly after 12.30am on Saturday, 6 July. A 92-year-old man was subsequently taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He died from his injuries this afternoon and a post mortem will be carried out in due course.
Two men, aged 19 and 20-years-old, were arrested in the vicinity of the offence and have been released on bail until 9 August. A further two people, a 37-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, were arrested later that day and have been released on bail until 18 July. The four were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
